MAPLE HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

Police are investigating after a gunman was reported walking on a middle school campus Thursday morning. The school was put on brief lockdown, but police say no evidence was found.

Around 7 a.m., police received a call from school security officers reporting there was a male with a gun on the property of Milkovich Middle School. The witness told police an adult male was walking around carrying what looked like a shotgun. According to the witness, the male made comments that bad things were going to happen and continued walking toward the rear of the school.

Working with school officials and security staff, the school was placed on lockdown while the area was searched. Bedford, Bedford Heights and Walton Hills departments assisted as mutual aid. Agencies searched the school grounds, surrounding woods, Stafford Park, and area businesses.

Police say no gunman was found.

Investigation into the incident continues. Anyone with information is urged to call the Maple Heights Police Department at (216) 587-9637.
