Early Sunday morning, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the Browns were looking to trade main players, including Joe Thomas and Alex Mack.
Monday, Rapaport tweeted new information about Mack's future with the team:
After the Sunday 34-20 loss to the Cardinals, Coach Mike Pettine was asked about the rumors.
"This fictitious trading block, to me, you get near the trade deadline and reports start coming out, to me I'm just not even going to go there. It seems to happen every year, no we're focused 100 percent on this game this morning and now we're moving on. I'm aware what's out there, I have no comment," Pettine said.
During Monday's conference call, Pettine was asked whether the Browns lacked focus in Sunday's game due to trade rumors.
"No, these guys are professionals. I didn’t notice any lack of focus because of some rumor that came out the morning of the game. We have not had a team meeting yet so I’ll likely say something in tonight’s meeting. I just think it’s a function of when you get close to the trade deadline and things aren’t going well, people outside the building want to put two and two together and float stuff out there. I feel the same way about it. Part of being in the situation that we’re in is dealing with adversity, and this is just part of it," Pettine said.
Josh McCown was also banged up in the game, which begged the question if he will start Thursday.
"If our starter can go, he'll be our starter," Pettine said.
The Browns have to apply a quick band-aid because they will take on division rival Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday. The game will air on Cleveland 19 and we will have a Tailgate 19 show at 7:00 P.M.
