CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Construction on Prospect Avenue downtown continues. The expected completion date was October.
The entire project includes resurfacing Prospect Avenue between Ontario Street and East 22nd Street to include modified parking, a center turn lane and biking facilities.
The Ohio Department of Transportation says they are behind schedule because their workers have run into many unexpected utility challenges, including underground utilities which were not known and therefore not a part of the original plans.
Unknown basements of previous, long-defunct buildings have also posed a challenge. The final (surface) course of asphalt and roadway striping are expected to be placed during the week of November 9.
The roadway is expected to reopen in its entirely shortly thereafter. Sidewalk and curb ramp work will continue until about November 25.
All traffic is currently using the north (completed) side of the roadway.
