CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

If I was grading solely on toughness, I'd be dishing out an "A+" to Josh McCown, who once again took a beating. The Cardinals took shots at his head (Kevin Minter, second quarter) and his ribs, knocking him down, but not out. McCown insists the pain didn't affect his play, but his only turnover came in the fourth quarter, and he never found the end zone in the second half. Still, 3 TD tosses earn him an "A".

Brian Hartline caught two of those touchdown tosses, including a tremendous grab to put the Browns on the board in the first. Then, he suddenly forgot how to catch, costing ‘em with a few key drops in the second half, including a crucial one on third down when this game was slipping away. The best I can do for Brian is a "C+".

Painful day for the secondary, in more ways than one. The Cardinals had  'em beat deep twice in the first half, but Carson Palmer overthrew Michael Floyd, and then Larry Fitzgerald. In the second half, though, Palmer didn't miss, hitting Floyd for a 60-yd bomb that knocked Joe Haden out, and Jaron Brown for 39 that knocked Donte Whitner out. Palmer threw for 374 yards and 4 TD’s. I’m giving the secondary a “D”.

Why not an "F"?  Because Tashaun Gipson forced the first fumble, the one that Armonty Bryant almost took to the house, and also had an interception. And  K'waun Williams forced a fumble. Just think of how ugly this game would have been if the defense "hadn't" forced four turnovers. Still, down the stretch, they just couldn't keep up with a great offense. I'll meet 'em in the middle, and give the "D" a "C".

As for the coaches, well, they threw to Duke Johnson once, and he went for 52. Then they threw it to him again, and he went for 16. So what do they do?  They never threw it to him again. I don't get it, and I wonder if they get it. I know this, though. When you're 2-6, and unable to finish, you get an "F".
