NORTH RIDGEVILLE, OH (WOIO) - A 74-year-old man is expected to appear in Elyria Municipal Court Monday on charges that he shot and killed his wife during a domestic dispute.

North Ridgeville Police said Ronald Svec called 911 at about 6:45 p.m. Friday and said, "I just shot my wife. She pointed a knife at me and I shot her."

The call came from a home in the 5900 block of Jaycox Road.

When officers arrived, they were met in the driveway by Svec, where he was taken into custody.

Gloria Svec, 69, was found lying in the kitchen. She was unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Gloria was taken to St. John Westshore Hospital, where she died.

Many who knew the couple say they are in shock since they looked so happy together.

"Never seen any issues, him arguing with his wife at all. So surprising what happened to them," said neighbor Javier Feliciano.

The couple was raising their young grandson, who lives with them. The child was home during the shooting, but was uninjured. He's now staying with other family members.

Svec is being held at the Lorain County Jail on one count of murder and one count of felonious assault.
