MAPLE HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

On Tuesday, more than 25 Home Depot associates partnered with Maple Heights Senior Development Incorporated to transform the Stafford Park Veterans Memorial, which serves local veterans.

The local volunteer project is part of Home Depot's fifth annual Celebration of Service campaign, a nationwide effort led by Team Depot, the company's associate-led volunteer force, to help give back to veterans in need. From Sept. 10 through Veterans Day, Team Depot volunteers completed projects for veterans in every community Home Depot serves.

The Stafford Park Veterans Memorial, located on Mayville Avenue in Maple Heights, has historically been a communal site for veterans. However, it fell into a state of disrepair and became unusable.

Volunteers spent the day rebuilding ramps and railings, repairing the gazebo's roof and updating landscaping to ensure the memorial is accessible to disabled veterans and the gazebo can be used for veteran functions.

In addition to Team Depot's efforts, The Home Depot Foundation will donate $1 to veteran causes for each social media post customers share supporting veterans and volunteering. On Twitter and Instagram, people can join by sharing a #ServiceSelfie. On Facebook, likes, comments and shares on Team Depot's nonprofit spotlight posts each Monday will count toward the $1 million goal.
