CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Known as a strong supporter for Hillary Clinton, former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner is now backing U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders.
Her announcement on Thursday is sending shock waves throughout the county and the state of Ohio.
Turner who has a national presence as well, flew to Iowa Thursday night to conference with Sanders. She is scheduled to introduce him in Cleveland on Monday night at a rally at CSU's Wolstein Center.
She went on twitter to respond to the critics.
Turner also said she's in it to put the right issues on the agenda, not for a J.O.B.
"Thank God almighty I'm not in it for those reasons. I'm in it because I feel deeply and passionately about this. This is not about another job or gig for me. This is about fighting for the heart and soul of the minds of the voters of this great nation," Turner said.
"I don't expect very many Democrats in Ohio to follow Nina on supporting Bernie Sanders. I think most of us have worked with Secretary Clinton. Senator Clinton had four years and we've been pleased with the kind of leader she is," U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown said.
"She has worked hard for a lot of Democrats over the years and helped elect a lot of Democrats. So I'm not going to say I'm going to be against Nina because she did not support Hillary, but I can only speak for myself. I am a Hillary Clinton supporter. I think it's time for a woman, especially to be elected," Mamie Mitchell, Cleveland City Council said.
