Woman, pets die in Uniontown house fire

UNIONTOWN, OH (WOIO) - One woman was killed and another was taken to the hospital after an early morning house fire in Uniontown.

The Uniontown Fire Department says the call came in around 2:45 a.m. When crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from a house in the 13100 block of Cleveland Avenue.

Several area fire departments responded for mutual aid. According to fire officials, flames were extinguished within approximately 30 minutes.

One woman was unable to escape and died in the fire, along with her cat and dog. The victim's name is being withheld pending family notification.

A second woman and a police officer were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by local departments, as well as the State Fire Marshal's Office. The cost of damage is unknown at this time.
