Cavs J.R. Smith accused of choking New York student

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - New York Daily News is reporting the Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith reportedly choked a 19-year-old student outside a pizza shop in Chelsea, N.Y. on Nov. 13. The Cavaliers were in town for their game against the New York Knicks.

NYDN reports Smith choked the student after the younger man mocked Smith's trade to Cleveland. The events happened around 4 A.M. on Friday morning.

Police say that victim, Justin Brown had no visible injuries at the time he filed the report, Police also say no charges have been filed and Smith's attorney denies it happened.

Smith has not been arrested in connection to the alleged incident.

The Cavaliers released the following statement:

"We are aware of the story and have spoken to JR about it. JR's attorney has issued a statement on the matter and there will be no further comment from the team on this at this point."
