CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO/CBS) -

United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio Steven M. Dettelbach announced Wednesday that he was stepping down from his position to reenter private practice.

Following his announcement Cleveland's mayor released a statement wishing him well.

“I want to congratulate Steven Dettelbach, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, and wish him all the best as he moves to the next level in his career. I have nothing but thanks and gratitude for Steven and his team here.
The City has enjoyed a good working relationship and I consider him a great partner. This partnership included work on the VGRIPs, STANCE, and crime reduction efforts in multiple fronts including gang suppression activity and a strong push toward reducing guns falling into the wrong hands.
Ultimately, his partnership with the City of Cleveland led to a cutting edge consent decree with the Department of Justice that would not have been possible without him.”
