CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Lakewood residents made a major step in keeping ownership of Lakewood Hospital Thursday.
The "Save Lakewood Hospital Committee" delivered signatures to City Hall.
The group got more than the 3,400 signatures they needed in order to put a referendum on the March ballot to repeal City Ordinance 49-15.
That Ordinance transfers ownership of Lakewood Hospital from the city's citizens to The Cleveland Clinic for just pennies on the dollar.
Organizers say the controversial ordinance was passed by city officials even after court proceedings exposed documents proving that Lakewood Hospital was deliberately mismanaged to create a false narrative of obsolescence and non-profitability.
They said there was no open bidding process.
