During a traffic stop on Lorain Ave near W. 85th Street, a Cleveland Metro Post trooper was informed by a pedestrian of a man lying in the roadway nearby with a gun.
The trooper found the man lying in the roadway "incoherent and impaired".
A short time later, a backup officer and EMS responded to the scene.
The gun was secured and the man, later identified as 33-year-old Michael White, was moved on to the curb to receive medical assistance.
CPR was administered by EMS and a trooper after the he became unresponsive.
White was then taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead at 2:23 a.m.
The incident remains under investigation.
