Canal Fulton officer hurt in 1-car accident

CANAL FULTON, OH (WOIO) -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-car accident that left an officer injured on Saturday, January 23.

It happened around 1:30 p.m., on Milan Avenue, north of Market Street, in the village of Canal Fulton, in Stark County.

The injured party was canal Fulton Officer Robert D. Stetka Jr., 25.

Officer Stetka, Jr.,was headed to an emergency call, traveling northbound on Milan Ave. in a 2007 Chevrolet Impala police cruiser.

During a turn along a left curve, he lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the right side of the road, striking a utility pole.

Due to the collision Officer Stetka became trapped inside the vehicle.

The Canal Fulton Fire Department freed the officer through mechanical means.

Accident investigators report that Officer's Stetka's overhead emergency lights and siren were activated when the crash occurred.

Officer Stetka was transported to Akron City Hospital for evaluation of injuries.

He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
