Woman injured trying to save animals from burning home

ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) -

One person was life-flighted to the hospital after an overnight fire in Elyria. 

Firefighters were called to a home on 11th Street for a house fire around 2:21 a.m. Wednesday. Elyria Fire said two people were in the home at the time of the fire. The man in the home escaped unharmed. 

Fire officials said a woman, Cindy Redell, went back into the home to save some animals, became trapped and escaped out of a second-story window. 

She was found on a neighbor's lawn and life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center. Her condition is not known. 

The house is heavily damaged. The cause remains under investigation. 

The two story home is near the high school and historic buildings.
