MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OH (WOIO) - Mayfield High School was evacuated just before 10 a.m. due to a threat. The high school is located at 6116 Wilson Mills Road.
The Superintendent has confirmed a bomb threat came into the board of education by phone.
The district immediately notified police. The threat was proven not credible.
Thursday, at 8:30 a.m. another threat. This time a high school student shared with high school administrators a non-specific threat against Mayfield High School via Instagram.
As a precaution the school was placed on lock down at 9:20 a.m.
As a safety measure, the school dismissed students at 10 a.m.
Police began searching the building with canines.
"The decision to evacuate was made by district officials with the support of local police as a means to take every precaution necessary to keep our students and staff safe and to allow them to return to a safe and secure learning environment," Superintendent Keith Kelly said. "I want to reiterate these actions will not be tolerated and any and all perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The search for explosives continues at this hour.
