LANCASTER, OH (WOIO) - Something fast and bright. That's what more than 500 people reported seeing falling from the night sky Saturday night.
The American Meteor Society says the fireball was seen around 6:16 p.m. Saturday primarily from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, but witnesses from Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Delaware, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and even Ontario also reported seeing the fireball.
According to AMS, a fireball is another term for a very bright meteor, generally brighter than magnitude -4, which is about the same magnitude of the planet Venus as seen in the morning or evening sky.
A video posted on YouTube shows the fireball from Lancaster, OH.
