Off-duty police officer dragged on Cleveland's east side

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland police are investigating an off-duty Grand River police officer dragged by a suspect's vehicle. It happened in the area of E. 40th, just south of Quincy around 10 a.m.

The preliminary investigation reveals the officer was working security for Dave's supermarket. He was in the parking lot helping a woman, who was locked out of her vehicle when a manager from the supermarket chased two suspects from the store and said that they had stolen meat from the store.

The suspects entered a van, the officer went to the van and was dragged by the van as the suspects fled.

The suspect drove off, dragging the officer.

Police believe the officer fired approximately four rounds while being dragged, it is not believed that anyone was hit.

The suspects are in a dark blue van possibly a Kia Sedona.

The officer was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.
