CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

It's all the rage in the latest workout trends: obstacle course races that make you jump through hoops to get to the finish line.

Right now is when the extreme race enthusiasts are training for their next obstacle-filled adventure. Now there’s a mile-long course filled with the obstacles permanently in NE Ohio.

Korey Smerk, avid cross-trainer, says, “I started doing it on my own, running trails, climbing vines in the park."

Then Korey found out about the obstacle course at Euphoria Health and Fitness in Cleveland, where climbing, flipping tires, and carrying logs are just part of the ordinary.

It's the brainchild of Euphoria’s owner, Kyle Amsdell. It was originally a course planned to help triathletes train.

Amsdell said, “turned out to be one of the most fun workouts you can expect in Northeast Ohio. There's nothing like this."

He says over the last couple years adventure races like Warrior Dashes and Tough Mudders have exploded-making this course a hot commodity.

"It's the hot workout now and I now get it," said Amsdell.

"You can do anything you want. You do natural movements that are only going to aid in your movement through the day," said Smerk.

First timer, Kristy Didion says she'd do it again in a heartbeat.  “You don't feel like you're working out, like you're a kid."

That's the whole point. Take out the monotony of the ordinary workout. But it's so much easier if you bring along a friend... or maybe even a sports team or your work crew.

Amsdell says it's become a popular activity for groups to work on team building. “It's a lot of fun,  a lot of laughs. Helping each other out. It's a great way from comradery."

If you'd like to check out the course, you can call the gym, Euphoria Health and Fitness at (216) 265-3689.
