ERIE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

The Sandusky Highway Patrol Post is currently investigating a one vehicle fatal crash, which occurred in Florence Township, in Erie County, on SR-113 near SR-60.

The crash Saturday, February 6, at 10:03 p.m.

Troopers say that 48-year-old Joe L. Milks Jr., of Wakeman, Ohio, was driving a green 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, headed westbound on SR-113, one mile west of SR-60. In the front seat sat 11-year-old Jason Milks.

For some reason, Wakeman drove left of center, off the left side of the roadway, into a ditch, and finally into a tree.

Although he was wearing a seat belt, Joe Milks sustained severe injuries and died at the scene of the accident.

Jason, who was also wearing a seat belt,  only sustained minor injuries and was transported by EMS to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain County.

The vehicle sustained severe damage and had to be towed by L&M Towing.

Other responding agencies include the Erie County Coroner's Office, Erie County Sheriff's Office, Florence Township Fire, Citizens Ambulance Services, Life Flight, L & M Towing.

Alcohol and drug use does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
