Akron man pleads guilty in connection with fentanyl related death

SUMMIT COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Renardo Owens, 21, of 26th Street in Akron, admitted to selling fentanyl to a person who eventually died from taking the drug.

Owens plead guilty in a Summit County courtroom to involuntary manslaughter and heroin trafficking.

Prosecutors say on September 3, 2015 Owens sold fentanyl to 62-year-old Georgia Speck. Speck later died from taking the drug. Police arrested Owens when he attempted to make another drug deal.

Owens will be sentenced on February 23.
