LAKE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - Dozens of collisions, involving cars and trucks, were reported Wednesday afternoon as snow and ice hit Interstate 90 in Lake County closing all lanes.
There were no fatalities but 16 people were injured.
ODOT closed I-90 westbound between SR 528 and SR 44 and I-90 eastbound between SR 44 and Vrooman Road for several hours while the wreckage was cleared.
Wednesday night, some drivers and truckers like Mark Jennings pulled off at a rest stop to wait out the traffic during rush hour.
"We get a lot of roads shutdown. I've been pretty lucky the last few years to not hit any of the back ups," he said.
Mark, who lives in Florida, had some company to pass the time with-- his dog.
"This is Brewster. He'll be 10 years old in July. He's been on the truck since he was a year and a half. Pretty good companion, he gets me out and gets me some exercise," Jennings said.
The Lake County Sheriff says some vehicles were off the road and trapped under other vehicles.
On Christmas Eve 2013, there was a snowy pileup involving 28 cars in the same area.
