AVON LAKE, OH (WOIO) - "Being in Avon Lake I thought I was safe, naïve," says an unidentified Avon Lake resident.
But the woman who doesn't want to be identified says her sense the security was shattered Saturday when someone kicked in the door of her home and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

"Walked into my bedroom and saw that the dresser drawers were all pulled out and all of my jewelry drawers were emptied out on the
floor and scattered all over the room," says the resident.

The woman, so fearful she boarded up her door from the inside and got an alarm just hours before she spoke with us. Her neighbors home was also hit in the same community near Webber Road. Jewelry there was also stolen.
The latest incident happened around dinner time between seven and 9 o'clock at night. Avon Police say they are beefing up patrols.

"There has been a slight increase. It's not abnormal for these types of crimes to occur," says Avon Lake Detective Justin Ludwig.

"I'm angry at myself that I didn't secure it better. Didn't have an alarm. Didn't take precautions that I probably should have taken," said the resident.

Right now, police don't have any suspects in either case.

Police are reminding people to look out for their neighbors and report anything suspicious.
