Police: Man shoots and kills dog over card game

LORAIN, OH (WOIO) -

A suspect is in custody after shooting and killing a dog. Police say around 1 a.m. Sunday on Madison Avenue Ricardo Johnson was playing cards when he got upset about losing money.

Witnesses say Johnson, 30, then fired several times into the dog cage. The dog, Diablo, was rushed to the vet, but did not survive.

An 8-yr-old girl was sleeping in the room above where the shooting happened. She was not injured.

Johnson fled the scene in his car and was spotted by police, but refused to stop.

The pursuit lasted about eight minutes and averaged speeds of forty miles an hour, before Johnson was taken into custody.

Johnson faces a number of charges; including, aggravated menacing, endangering children, having weapons under disability, prohibitions concerning compassion animals, ovi, and fleeing.
