AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

A Cleveland police officer made the mistake of leaving his police-issued weapon in his personal car, and now that gun is in the hands of the wrong people.

The officer was off duty when someone stole his 2011 gray Ford Fusion from the Interbelt Night Club on North Howard St. in Akron Monday night.

The 27-year-old says he noticed his keys were missing while inside the bar. When he went outside, his car was gone. The officer says his duty pistol was under the driver's seat.

The Akron Police Department is handling the investigation.
