MENTOR ON THE LAKE, OH (WOIO) - Early Monday morning an elderly man became disoriented while traveling to Lake Overlook Beach Park to walk his dogs.

Mentor on the Lake police say the 79-year-old failed to negotiate the curve at Reynolds and Salida and continued through the fence. From there police say he traveled north through the park, over an embankment, and onto the frozen beach below.

After the accident, the man was able to walk back to the street, to get help.

He told a Service Department employee that his vehicle would not start.

The Service Department employee asked him, "where is your car?" The man pointed towards the park. The city plow driver then went into the park and saw the man's car with his dogs inside over the embankment.

The man was transported to Lake West Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The dogs were not injured and taken back to the resident's home.

Police say the man will be cited with failure to control, and be required to take a retest before driving again.
