MENTOR ON THE LAKE, OH (WOIO) -

A man on his way to walk his dogs ended up onto a frozen beach in Mentor-on-the-Lake

The 79-year-old man on his way to Lake Overlook Beach Park was traveling northbound on Reynolds Road when he became disoriented. Police say he failed to negotiate a curve, traveled through a fence over an embankment and landed onto the frozen beach.

After the accident, he walked to the street and flagged down a city service worker. He told the worker his car wouldn't start. The worker noticed the car on the ice with the dogs inside.

Mentor-on-the-Lake fire responded and transported the man to Lake West Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The dogs were not injured. They were taken to the man's home. His car was towed.

The driver will be cited with failure to control and be required to take a retest before driving again.
