Patient charged with stabbing security guard held on $100K bond

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - A man police say stabbed a hospital security guard appeared in an Akron courtroom Thursday.

Andrew Wallace, 33, pleaded not guilty to stabbing a Summa Health security officer Tuesday evening at St. Thomas Hospital while being transported to the psych unit.

Wallace is charged with felonious assault and being held on a $100,000 bond.

The guard, Art Belcher, Jr, was stabbed in the neck and stomach. He's in stable condition at Akron General.

Akron police have not released any more information relating to how Wallace had two knives on him.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation.
