NORTHEAST OHIO (WOIO) - IKEA will not be building in Brooklyn, but there are other viable options in northeast Ohio.
The mayor of Avon said he hopes the Swedish retailer considers his city.
"We're disappointed for Brooklyn. I know how much it meant to them. But if it could happen to Avon, that would be great," Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen said.
If not Avon, what about other sites? We called around to neighboring cities to see if they would be interested. We're still waiting on call backs, but here's what some cities had to say...
Bedford Heights says it's a "great thought."
Streetsboro Mayor Glenn Broska said, "We are definitely interested in having an IKEA located in Streetsboro and will be throwing our hat in the ring!"
Elyria Mayor Holly Brinda says Lorain County put in a proposal three to four months ago, hoping to land the superstore in Midway Mall.
"There's no doubt in my mind that not only would they patronize it, but it could be a huge uplifting move for that whole Midway area," Brinda explained.
