Dani Carlson, Cleveland 19 Dani Carlson, Cleveland 19

Dani Carlson joined the Cleveland 19 news team in December 2015 and loves exploring her new home.

Before moving to Cleveland, Dani was an investigative reporter at NBC affiliate WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, MI.

One of her investigations there exposed a major flaw in the IRS' system of screening potential non profits and charities.

Following the IRS' instructions, she legally set up a charity with her dog Dexter as the CEO. She also uncovered a case of wrongful arrest, where a local sheriff's department arrested the wrong man for a crime, merely because he had the same name as the actual suspect.

Her exclusive reporting and insider's knowledge on multiple stories led to national appearances on both Dateline NBC, and "NBC Nightly News."

While in Grand Rapids, she was nominated for multiple Emmy and Associated Press awards and won an Emmy for a series she did on security in schools. A story she did on an ancient computer controlling heating and cooling for one Michigan school district Was featured on Popular Mechanics, the Huffington Post and other sites, and garnered more than 250,000 page views.

As a product of public schools herself, Dani is passionate about education, and hopes to be able to cover school issues that matter to the people of Northeast Ohio.

Dani has worked as a news reporter all over the country and even internationally. She started her on air career in Lexington, KY, worked in Fresno, CA and was also an on air correspondent in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Dani grew up outside of Chicago and went to Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. While at Northwestern she studied abroad in London, and doubled majored in journalism and history. She returned to NU several years later to teach graduate and undergraduate journalism classes at her alma mater, and roots for the (often underdog) Northwestern Wildcats.

When she's not working, Dani loves traveling, taking pictures, skiing, ice skating, shopping, reading, spending time with friends, exploring her new city and playing with her dog Dexter. She's also always on social media if you ever want to reach out.
