CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A North Olmsted church youth minister appeared in a Cleveland courtroom Tuesday to answer to 10 counts of sexual battery.

Brian Mitchell, 31, had a sexual relationship with an underage girl between August 2015 and Sept. 2015, according to police.

Mitchell pleaded not guilty and was placed on a $10,000 bond and no contact with the victim.

Mitchell served as a youth minister at Columbia Road Baptist Church in North Olmsted.

Mom found out about the relationship and called police in November.

Statement from the Church-from Pastor Jenkins:

"Brian Mitchell Served as a youth pastor in a church before he started to work with our youth on a volunteer basis. He was not on our paid staff and had the title of youth director not Pastor. Upon the allegations being brought to my attention on 11-14-15.  I talked with Brian on the 15th and relieved him of his duties and went to the North Olmsted police and made a report.  I am not the  police, judge,or jury I am the pastor to the offended and our people. My prayer is that justice is done and that healing can move forward. I and our church family are devastated and now working on healing. Please pray for us and this is all I have to say at this time. God bless!"
