ROOTSTOWN, OH (WOIO) - A person found dead after a house fire in Portage County has been identified as Bryan Patrick Burns, 41, who lived at the home.

Crews were called to 4790 Smith Road around 8 a.m. Wednesday for a working house fire. After the firefighters put out the fire, crews found the Burns' body.

During the initial stage of the investigation it was believed that the death was suspicious in nature and Burns' car was missing. Portage County Detectives requested the assistance of the Ohio State Fire Marshal and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) to respond to the residence.

The Summit County Medical Examiners Officer determined at that time that Burns was shot in the head, before the fire was set. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak is requesting the public's assistance in locating Burn's vehicle.  The vehicle is described as follows: 2001 Ford Mustang, silver in color, OH license GIX6026.  This vehicle does have damage to the left front (drivers side) fender.
