CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - After trading out of the only chance the Browns had to draft one of the top two quarterbacks, I am all for them doing it again. I was not crazy about their trade at first, but I warmed up to it after a few hours, and at this point there is no harm in doing it again.
If somebody wants to trade up to draft Ezekiel Elliot? Great. Pull the trigger. Dolphins want him? Splendid! Give the Browns #13 and a 1 next year. If you're not getting a quarterback, get more draft picks. Did you hear me, Browns? GET! ALL! THE DRAFT PICKS!!!!
We all know that the Browns are not one player away. Heck, they aren't even a Hall of Fame class away. They could draft five Hall of Famers this year and would still be a disaster in orange hats.
The next part of the equation is also tricky though. It's an arcane practice used by only a handful of teams. It's called… (double checks dusty scrolls)… DRAFTING GOOD PLAYERS. We have no idea if they can do this or not.
It's a new front office, so you cannot hold the mistakes of the past against them, but it is fair to question their experience. Sashi Brown is a lawyer. Paul DePodesta is a baseball man. Pep Hamilton has never been a top talent evaluator. There are a lot of reasons this could go wrong, so you might as well minimize the damage by getting more picks. Shotgun this thing. You don't need to be precise. Get 15 picks, you're bound to bump into three or four players, right?
The party starts Thursday night. We'll see what they do. I love the draft. I can't wait. I'll love it even more when the Browns know what they're doing with it.
