Akron man charged in fatal hit-skip of girlfriend

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Akron Police say a motorist discovered a woman lying unconscious in the middle of the street, and it was later determined that her boyfriend had struck her with his car.

Around 1 a.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2016 a driver traveling in the 2000 block of Briner Avenue saw the victim and alerted police.

EMS also responded to the scene but the 43-year-old woman eventually died from her injuries.

Detectives have learned that the victim and her boyfriend, Jeffrey L. White, 41, of Akron, were arguing at her home on Briner Avenue.

According to authorities, White got into his 2001 Cadillac and struck her with the vehicle as he was leaving the residence.

He then fled the scene.

Detectives eventually arrested and charged White with felony hit-skip.

He is currently booked at the Summit County jail where he awaits his arraignment.

Additional charges are expected for White.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will release the victim's name once the family has been properly notified.
