WESTLAKE, OH (WOIO) - Check out the new "Ovation" apartments at Crocker Park in Westlake. The residents now temporarily housed in the building are dozens of employees here working for the RNC.
Nearly 50 apartments already rented out for a two- to four-month period.
"We had to fast track some of our apartments to make sure they were ready for them," said Tina Roberts.
Roberts with Stark Enterprises, the company that runs Crocker Park, says they've been working with RNC officials for at least a year. She said that includes apartments, and securing 110 suites at the New Hyatt Hotel for delegates. The big political event means big exposure and business.
"They were really looking for two-bedroom apartments that were kind of separated. That had their own walk-in closets. Their own bathrooms or the bedroom. So they could put two different people in here for the group that's coming," added Roberts.
Shawn Tatarowicz is the Assistant Operations manager for Driftwood restaurants and Catering. They are one of the official caterers of the RNC at the Q. Driftwood has even hired an extra 200 employees for this summer's event.
The company also owns several restaurants in the Cleveland area, including 87 West at Crocker Park. That restaurant is also one of at least five on the property that will stay open until 4 a.m. for the RNC.
"It's very exciting. We're very fortunate to be a part of this. It's expanded our business. I think everyone is really going to benefit from this to grow in the city," explained Shawn Tatarowicz.
Shawn says the company already has three locations downtown they'll cater for the RNC. He tells us they will double their revenue in catering alone. They hope to secure events at Crocker.
