ODOT PIO involved in 2-vehicle crash dies

WOOSTER, OH (WOIO) - A Public Information Officer with the Ohio Department of Transportation has died after being involved in a two vehicle crash Monday morning.

ODOT released a statement regarding the death of Joyce Miller on Tuesday:

"Known for her outgoing and always-pleasant personality, Joyce was a friend to everyone in the district and all of those she worked with during her time here at ODOT," said Howard Huebner, District 3 Deputy Director. "She was always one to propose a fun, new idea regarding how we could better highlight our ODOT employees and their work, and she was a true joy and blessing to all of her colleagues.  Her eye for detail and creative touch made the District's internal and external communications efforts a great success."

According to investigators, the two vehicle crash occurred on Kieffer Street at Gasche Street in the City of Wooster just before 9 a.m.

Miller, 33, of Wooster, was driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna on Kieffer Street, when she blew through a stop sign and into the path of a Honda Accord. The Honda was pushed to the northeast corner of the intersection. The Toyota hit a stop sign and rolled on its left side. 5-year-old Mark J. Miller was a passenger in the Sienna. He was transported to the Wooster Community Hospital with minor injuries.

Vicki L. Rich, 60, was driving the Honda. She was transported to the Wooster Community Hospital for her injuries.

Police say everyone was wearing a seatbelt.

Miller leaves behind a husband and two children.

This crash remains under investigation. This is the third fatal crash in Wayne County this year.
