Female prisoner found unresponsive in cell, dies at hospital

BEACHWOOD, OH (WOIO) - Beachwood police are investigating after a 51-year-old inmate died after being taken to the hospital.

After being found unresponsive in her cell, Emma Pearson was transported from the Beachwood jail by EMS to University Hospitals on May 10 around 10:30 p.m.  The Garfield Heights woman died later that day.

Pearson was arrested after being stopped in the parking lot of Giant Eagle on Chagrin Blvd. She was wanted on a theft warrant out of Beachwood while her passenger, Kimberley Leius, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, narcotic equipment possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner will determine Pearson's cause of death.
