Special Master appointed to Tanisha Anderson case asks to be recused

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A Special Master recently appointed to a case involving a woman's death in police custody asked to be recused from the case.

Retired Judge Thomas Pokorny notified Judge John J. Russo he has a conflict and must remove himself from the case.

Judge Pokorny learned a member of his family is friends with a person involved in the case. Judge Russo granted the request and has appointed retired Judge Joseph Gibson as the new Special Master.

Tanisha Anderson, 37, died in police custody on Nov. 12, 2014 after struggling with officers trying to take her for a psychiatric evaluation.
