Akron officers save golfer's life

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - A former Akron Mayoral candidate is alive today thanks to a couple of quick thinking police officers.

Akron policemen John Turnure and David Zarembka responded to Good Park Golf Course Monday after receiving a call that a golfer collapsed.

When they arrived, the officers started performing CPR and chest compressions on David Meeker, because was not conscious.

Meeker collapsed on the ninth green from a suspected heart attack. Once paramedics arrived, he was taken to Akron General Medical Center.

Meeker ran for the mayor's seat in 1987. He lost to retired Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic.

Meeker is currently listed in serious condition.
