CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The UFC's newest heavyweight champion is bringing his first title defense to his home turf.
Billed as Cleveland's first major professional sports champion in 52 years (though mixed martial arts is an individual sport), Stipe Miocic will defend his UFC heavyweight title on Saturday, Sept. 10 against third-ranked Alistair Overeem at Quicken Loans Arena.
The bout will be the UFC's first-ever visit to Cleveland and first event in Ohio since March 2009, when UFC 96 took place in Columbus.
Miocic knocked out Fabricio Werdum less than three minutes into their championship bout May 14 to earn the heavyweight title.
