ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - The FBI have now linked the abduction of a 6-year-old girl from Cleveland to an attempted abduction of an Elyria girl back in February.
Learning this information on Friday has renewed an awful memory for the father of the 10-year-old girl from Elyria. The attempted abduction of his daughter has changed their lives.
Raymond says it's hard to sleep at night, and he hopes the suspect is caught soon.
"I'm living through it all over again, it kind of sucks. Even though it wasn't me, I feel for 'em," he said.
Now news from the FBI that these cases are connected has him feeling hopeful that the suspect will finally be caught.
"A little scary, but it's good to know they got some video so hopefully they can catch who it is," Raymond said.
On a cold, snowy night in February, Raymond's daughter woke up in the middle of the night.
Police say a man grabbed her legs and tried to pull her out of her bedroom window.
She was sleeping on the top of a bunk bed. The 10-year-old girl fought back and ran to her dad.
"I grabbed my gun and ran outside in my underwear. Slipping and sliding in the mud before I had rocks put down. I came out and saw the ladder leaning against the house right there," Raymond said.
Raymond found footprints between his garage and a tree in his backyard.
Three months later, his daughter's window is guarded with a security camera and motion sensor lights.
Raymond showed us where he installed half a dozen cameras around his house.
He also installed a new security system. His neighbors have also put in new lights and security cameras.
As a father, he is doing everything he can to keep his little girl safe.
"This guy needs to be off the streets. Because if he's done it this many times he's going to keep doing it," Raymond said.
Police actually took his daughter's bedroom window to the lab to gather evidence. Raymond thinks they were able to get fingerprints off of it.
