SANDUSKY, OH (WOIO) - Sandusky police are investigating after an 7-year-old was shot on Center Street.

Officials said it happened around 2 p.m. Sunday and they believe the boy shot himself. His uncle was hysterical when he called 911.

Caller: My, my, my, my nephew was playing with a gun and shot himself in the neck please!
911 Dispatcher: He shot himself in the neck?
Caller: Yes, yes with a pistol, please come on please hurry!

The child, who was alive when police arrived, was rushed to Firelands Regional Medical Center then airlifted to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.

Neighbors said there were several adults in the home when it happened.

"I just want to know who were the adults in there while this kid was playing with this gun. He's a little sweet kid, he's innocent, he's a child," said one neighbor. "I don't understand it, it don't make sense to me, it's not adding up. Where was the supervision with this baby with this gun, how did he find it?

The little boy, whose name has not been released, is listed in critical but stable condition.
