Police believe uncle accidentally shot Sandusky boy

SANDUSKY, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland 19 News did some digging and found Ervin Clinton, Jr. is a convicted felon and should not have had a gun.

Police say Clinton Jr. accidentally shot his nephew and the bullet went through the left side of his nose and came out his right ear.

"I knew it couldn't have been true whatsoever. I knew there was more to the story they just didn't want to tell," a neighbor who did not want to give her name told Cleveland 19 News.

Police say Jordy's grandmother has custody of him.

Sandusky Police say the 7-year-old boy is getting better. He's off of the ventilator and breathing tubes and out of the ICU.

We wanted to know who owns the gun involved and where it came from. Police do not have those answers yet.

But they did have this to say:

"If you're going to have a gun in the house for protection, hunting, whatever, you should have it locked up so it's not accessible by a child. It's best if you have ammunition locked up in a separate location," said Lt. Richard Braum with Sandusky Police.

Police say in the end, the truth came out when they were able to talk to the boy.

"He's very, very lucky to be alive, that's for sure," Lt. Braum said.

Ervin Clinton Jr.'s criminal record includes sex assault, burglary and drug trafficking charges.
