CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A 24-year-old Cleveland man accused in a deadly stabbing was arrested early Sunday morning after a brief foot chase.

Police were called to W. 6th and Frankfurt around 2 a.m. for a man stabbed.

Authorities say an off-duty officer saw the victim 22-year-old Chandler Appling, and the suspect Stefon Robinson, in a parking lot across from 1392 West 6th street. Appling had his hands in the air and Robinson struck the victim in the chest and stomach, according to police.

Robinson then ran and the off-duty officer chased him, seeing he had a knife in his hand.

Robinson tripped and fell and was taken into custody. The knife was recovered on scene.

Appling was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where he died.
