CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A 24-year-old Cleveland man accused of stabbing and killing a father on West 6th Street is expected in court on Tuesday.

Cleveland police said Stefon Robinson stabbed 22-year-old Chandler Appling in the parking lot on West 6th Street across from Johnny's Downtown.

An off-duty officer saw the pair in the parking lot at about 2 a.m. Appling had his hands in the air and Robinson struck him in the chest and stomach, police said.

Robinson then ran and the off-duty officer chased him after seeing that he had a knife in his hand.

Robinson tripped and fell and was taken into custody. The knife was recovered at the scene.

Appling was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died. According to Appling's Facebook page, he attended Cleveland State University and has a daughter.
