PERRY TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

A 12-year-old student who created a "Frown the Clown" scare on social media has been arrested and charged with inducing panic, police said.

Police said the Perry Township 7th grader posted a threat via twitter threatening to "shoot up" a school within the Perry Local School District.

It was posted via a Twitter account from “Frown the Clown”.

Police received the report from school officials on the morning of October 10,  investigated and were able to identify and then arrest a suspect later that evening.

The student was booked at the Juvenile Attention Center.

Similar threats have been investigated throughout the Ohio area over the last several weeks.

Authorities are asking parents to speak with their children about the importance of making good decisions and not to engage in this type of behavior.
