Cell phone sale turns into shootout, man is killed

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A man lost his life simply going to purchase a cell phone and now Cleveland police are investigating.

Police were called to E. 93 near Cedar/Quincy for shots fired at 7:40 p.m. Monday evening. A short time later, officers were told that a shooting victim walked into the Cleveland Clinic Emergency Room

The victim, identified as Justin Blanton, was transferred to University Hospitals where he died. 

According to witnesses Blanton, 24, was on E. 93 to buy a cell phone when the seller pulled out a gun and tried to rob him. 

Blanton, a CCW holder, exchanged gunfire with the suspect and was shot in the back. Police do not know if the suspect was injured.
