STARK COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - Police have made an arrest in the Stark County hit-skip that killed a 60-year-old man on Oct. 4.
Police responded to a call around 9:57 p.m. of a man lying in the roadway at U.S. 62 and Middlebranch. When deputies arrived, they found that the man had been hit by a car and was unresponsive.
The man was later identified as Dennis L. Slaton, of Canton.
Police in Plain Township pulled over Joe Matthew Wilds, 23, for a traffic stop and noticed that his vehicle had damage to the right side of the windshield and to the passenger side mirror. A closer look at the damage led police to believe it was from the hit-skip. Wilds later admitted to being involved in the crash.
Wilds was issued a citation for offense of lanes of travel and was booked into the Stark County Jail for hit-skip and failure to stop after an accident on public roads.
