Police arrest husband after short chase; Wife found shot in head

AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Akron detectives investigating the shooting of a 58-year-old woman have arrested and charged her husband with felonious assault.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was found around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning in the 1100 block of Johnland Ave. Police say she had been shot the head. She was taken to Akron City Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Detectives, looking for the victim's husband, Phillip E. Battle, found him driving a Saturn SUV on S. Arlington St. near 7th Ave. After a brief chase, the 51-year-old was questioned and arrested.

He's currently locked up in the Summit County Jail.
