76-year-old pedestrian killed after being struck on Rt. 422

PORTAGE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a 76-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on Rt. 422 in Portage County Friday morning.

The accident happened around 5:40 a.m. near Rt. 88 in front of J.D.'s Post House restaurant.

Police say the victim, James Carter of Maple Heights, was walking across the road when he was struck by 27-year-old Ronald Nickell Jr. of Warren. Carter was not in a crosswalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nickell was not injured.
