CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has a new resident-- a harbor seal named Onion.

Onion was 17 months old when he was found stranded on Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown, MA in Sept. of 2015. He was rescued by the International Fund for Animal Welfare and admitted to the Marine Life Center's marine animal hospital for rehabilitation.

Onion developed an eye infection during his recovery that left him blind in his right eye with a lesion in his left eye, making him unable to be released back into the wild.

"Cleveland Metroparks Zoo came to Onion's rescue, offering him a permanent home in our seal and sea lion exhibit," the Zoo wrote on Facebook.

Welcome to Cleveland, Onion!
